Online Voter Registration Process
Becoming eligible to vote is something many people look forward to. In India, the legal age of voting is 18, and it is the time when teens are considered to enter adulthood. The right to vote is bestowed upon them, along with the responsibility to choose their candidates wisely. However, they must first learn how to register to vote before they can proceed. The form needed to begin the process is known as Form 6. It is available both online and in the office of the Chief Electoral Officer. Once you have obtained the form, it must be filled up and submitted to the concerned authorities. Again, this can be done at the local government office or as an online process. For voter registration, you will need details such as a passport sized picture, proof of residence and age. The Election Commission of India has made great strides in moving the process of registration online. For this purpose, the correct website to visit tis eci.nic.in. It is the official EC website and contains the process of application from start to end. If you choose to register to vote online, ensure that a copy of all necessary documents is kept ready as a scan on your computer.
Upon entering the website, you will find the New User Registration area. This option requires the entry of a phone number and e-mail address. All further communication for the electoral register online process will be sent to this address. Next, you need to fill up Form 6 and submit the necessary documents.
Ideally, it does not take more than one month for the form to be processed. The new voter ID should be delivered at your registered address. Do keep checking the voter registration status online on the EC website. This will help you stay up to date about your card.
